One cable comes with bare wires, allowing the end user to attach whichever connector is most convenient and appropriate for their use. This could be a Bates or Joy connector, commonly used on professional film production sets in the U.S. and Canada, or one of several twist-type connectors commonly used with portable generators and high-output household circuits for laundry equipment and other appliances.

The other cable uses an Edison plug, the household standard across North America. These circuits generally have a 110V/15amp or 110V/20amp capacity. When this cable is used, the STORM CS32 Control Box detects it and automatically reduces the maximum power draw of the light to protect the circuit from overload. It also alerts the user with a message on the Control Box display and asks the user to select what capacity circuit the fixture is plugged into, 110V/15amp (1,700W) or 110V/20amp (2,200W). The Indigo emitter outputs a calibrated violet light at 405nm (actual UV-A light begins at 380nm). This violet light is mostly invisible to the human eye, but certain chemicals and surfaces are activated by this light, causing them to fluoresce, shift in reflective color, and appear brighter. This emulates the natural reaction of these materials and surfaces to the violet light in natural daylight and tungsten light. Because of this, the STORM lights are the only LEDs in the industry to accurately emulate natural light like true daylight or tungsten. The level of violet light output by the STORM lights is very low, just enough to activate the fluorescing reaction and less than a household tungsten light bulb.

The Aputure mount on the STORM CS32 was first designed for the Electro Storm lights, and it avoided the issues of the Bowens mount so a ProLock-type design is not needed. There are two white light standards, Blackbody and CIE Daylight. Blackbody is the color that items burn at different temperatures and is a mathematically derived standard. CIE Daylight takes into account the natural shift to slightly green that the Earth’s atmosphere introduces to daylight.
